PCV valve stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve. It is a small but important part of your engine’s emissions system. It helps keep your engine running smoothly. It does this by removing harmful gases that escape past the piston rings during normal engine operation. These gases, called blow-by, can build up inside the engine and cause oil to break down. This leads to sludge, poor lubrication, and overheating.
PCV Valve Benefits
This valve connects to the engine’s intake manifold. It then uses the engine vacuum to pull these gases back into the combustion process. This reduces pollution and helps prevent pressure buildup. Pressure builds up can cause oil leaks by pushing oil past gaskets and seals.
When To Replace The Valve
Over time, the PCV valve wears out due to constant movement while the engine is running. A worn-out PCV valve can cause engine problems, increased emissions, and oil contamination. To avoid these issues and keep your engine in good shape, it’s recommended to replace the PCV valve every 45,000 miles.
